New Delhi Dear son, Marish, You know, the birthday of your grandfather
( tayaji ) falls on 3rd Dec. After reading ‘Divya’, a novel written by tayaji, I thought of naming you ‘Marish’, a character in the novel, when you were born. When you came into this world, even tayaji, on his own, thought that Marish is born. Also even nana ( papa ), also thought of you as Marish. All three of us, without consulting each other, thought of you as Marish. And you came, a little one, like a moon, beautiful, alert, intelligent, lovely. We all felt, you are the same Marish whom we wanted. Tayaji’s Marish in Divya is very intelligent, a scholar, impartial, above casteism ( jatiwad ) and he who can read the nerve of the time. My dear son, you will be carrying on your shoulders the weight of the the personality and beliefs of Divya’s Marish. This Marish has to live with a great sense of responsibility. My little slowly growing son, begin to understand my expectations from you. I will remind you again and again of my expectations which you might not like sometimes. Seldom we come across these days a man, a right man who practically resembles the Marish of Divya. You my son, you be Marish, a complete Marish.
Lots of love, PS I am writing this letter for your birthday. Now you will be of 11 years of age. Slowly and slowly you are growing. Go on growing. Blessings on your birthday. Ma Gogi.
