My son Marish, Punnu,

How are you ? Tomorrow, from the date of return to your school, a month will pass- what new you studied ? I have completed four acrylic paintings and have read about the Maya Culture. You know, Indian culture is many thousand years old. I and you had gone to Taxila together. You have heard about Mohenjodaro-Harrapa. You and I had seen an exhibition of bronze sculptures of Natraj, Parvati and Ganesh in Delhi. All these old sculptures, paintings, utensils, jewellery, houses, implements help us to know the people of that time - how they lived, their thought process and how they worshipped. We also come to know what things those people could do. All these aspects put together is known to be civilisation/cultural heritage.

The way we say that Indian culture is great. My son, in a similar way, Maya culture was also great. Lots of things were happening there, like lots of things were happening in India at that time. Their sculptures are very beautiful, their terracotta utensils are very beautiful and their temples are very beautiful. People of Maya culture worshipped fire and mother goddess. They did many things which were different from us, like for centuries we made terracotta pots on potters wheel but Maya culture people made terracotta pots by shaping the clay by beating. This civilisation spread across Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela and in the surrounding areas. Try to locate all these areas in your atlas. Tell your teacher to help you.

Lots of love,
Study with all your heart
Love Ma
Gogi

PS Dear son, the Maya temples are shaped like pyramids. They made sculptures from big stones and by carving the mountains. When you will come, I will show you the book on Maya culture.
